DIRECTOR OF PANTRY OPERATIONS

West Suburban Community Pantry is seeking a creative, socially aware and entrepreneurial leader of services for the position of Director of Pantry Operations.
With the help of volunteers and sponsors, our vision is to eradicate hunger within the families and individuals in the DuPage County area. We are dedicated to providing food for the hungry, educating the donor community about existing needs, and supporting advocacy efforts for the hungry. This position is a full-time opportunity. Will work onsite in our office, warehouse and pantry store in Woodridge, in the local community, and via virtual services.
Responsibilities:
- As a member of the leadership team, identify opportunities to rapidly improve and create new or expanded food services. Lead the successful execution of our strategic plan for food distribution.
- Act as internal expert for pantry services, including leading the advancement of technology to improve work processes and to enhance customer services.
- Lead the management of employees and volunteers working in the pantry store, Virtual Food Pantry, Romeoville School Pantry, and for expansion of services.
- Plan and manage warehouse space including for community group projects, food drives and special distributions.
- Lead team of our staff and external partners to execute food programs, such as for seniors and children.
- Oversee maintenance of warehouse buildings, equipment and trucks.
- Outsource excess product for redistribution to community partners.
- Assist in pick-up, unloading and storage of product and recording donations as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, social services management or related field, or equivalent work experience
- At least 7 years of operations management experience required, ideally within a warehouse setting or food pantry
- Creative and innovative thinking for strategic planning
- Tactical business planning and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
- Written and oral communication skills for effective communication with a variety of stakeholders including employees, volunteers, customers, community partners, and board members
- Experience in selecting, coaching, developing and managing performance of people preferred
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate standard delivery van and 20-foot box truck
- Flexibility in work schedule including occasional weekends
