Position Summary

The Warehouse Pantry Coordinator supports the Food Pantry Programs Manager in the management of the Woodridge Pantry store warehouse. The pantry store is open 22 hours per week and receives donations from 20 retail partners and 4 from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The Driver Pantry Coordinator provides service to our customers with compassion, dignity, and respect. The Driver Pantry Coordinator reports to the Food Pantry Programs Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for training volunteers in pantry operating procedures including donations. Ensure the donation area is clean and properly stocked.
  • Set up and assign tasks for volunteers.
  • Works with the Volunteer Coordinator to welcome and on-board new volunteers (tour, supplies, introductions to other volunteers).
  • Follows food pantry policy and procedures in receiving and distributing healthy/safe food and other products (i.e. personal hygiene products, household cleaning products, diapers).
  • Manages incoming product to correct distribution channel – In Person Market, Online Market, or Irene King School Pantry. Assess where overstock product should go out, shifting product from locations as needed.
  • Follows instructions set by the Food Pantry Programs Manager in the unloading of inbound product, and routing to the appropriate storage location, including for the Mail Carrier’s Drive and the Harvest Week Drive.
  • Monitors product inventory levels and places weekly store orders to NIFB. Makes recommendations to the Food Pantry Programs Manager to meet demand as needed.
  • Mediates any issues that may arise with clients or volunteers as it relates to client service, or when advised by the Food Pantry Programs Manager. Refers customer issues to Food Pantry Program Manager or Director of Pantry Operations as needed.
  • Assists with the pick-up of donations or delivery of product.
  • Operates manual and powered forklifts and agency vehicles.
  • Report all vehicle and building maintenance issues to the Food Pantry Programs Manager or the Director of Pantry Operations.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment.
  • Attends staff meetings, required trainings, and pantry’s major fundraising events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Pantry Programs Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with staff, volunteers, and customers. Can effectively develop and maintain professional relationships.
  • Operations experience in a retail, nonprofit, or restaurant setting preferred
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to work with minimal direction
  • Ability to work with people in a professional manner
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Ability to be open-minded to new work ideas and methods
  • Ability to operate standard delivery van and 20-foot box truck
  • Valid driver’s license. CDL not required.

Additional Information

Work is performed on a truck and in a warehouse with a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open, and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot and during the winter very cold. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with variations in temperature. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 50 pounds. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.

This position is full-time 40 hours per week; this position requires flexibility in a work schedule and includes Saturday mornings and some weeknights. Work hours are: T & W 7:30-3:30, Th 11:00-8:00, F 7:30-2:30; Sat 7:30-3:30
