Position Summary

The Driver Pantry Coordinator supports the Food Pantry Programs Manager in the operation of the Woodridge Pantry store including using a food pantry vehicle to complete donation pickups at local retail stores and other locations. The pantry store is open 22 hours per week and receives donations from 20 retail partners and 4 from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The Driver Pantry Coordinator provides service to our customers with compassion, dignity, and respect. The Driver Pantry Coordinator reports to the Food Pantry Programs Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Drive either WSCP box truck or van to our retail stores or to other vendors to pick up product.
  • Fill in when we are short volunteer drivers to pick up runs.
  • Operates a food pantry vehicle to complete donation pickups at local retailers and other companies.
  • Manages the volunteers and day to day operations on Monday, in support of opening the Market for Tuesday distribution.
  • Responsible for training volunteers in documenting donations and receives.
  • Works with the Volunteer Coordinator to welcome and on-board new volunteers (tour, supplies, introductions to other volunteers).
  • Follows food pantry policy and procedures in receiving and distributing healthy/safe food and other products (i.e. personal hygiene products, household cleaning products, diapers).
  • Mediates any issues that may arise with customers or volunteers as it relates to warehouse operations, or when advised by the Food Pantry Programs Manager.
  • Follows instructions set by the Food Pantry Programs Manager in the unloading of inbound product, and routing to the appropriate storage location, including for the Mail Carrier’s Drive and the Harvest Week Drive.
  • Operates manual and powered forklifts.
  • Report all vehicle and building maintenance issues to the Food Pantry Programs Manager or the Director of Pantry Operations.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment.
  • Attends staff meetings, required trainings, and pantry’s major fundraising events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Pantry Programs Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Comfortable driving a truck to different locations like Chicago or the suburbs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with staff, volunteers, and customers. Can effectively develop and maintain professional relationships.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license. Able to be added to West Suburban Community Pantry vehicle insurance. CDL is not required.
  • Operations experience in a retail, nonprofit, or restaurant setting preferred
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to work with minimal direction
  • Ability to work with people in a professional manner
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Ability to be open-minded to new work ideas and methods

Additional Information

Work is performed on a truck and in a warehouse with a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open, and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot and during the winter very cold. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with variations in temperature. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 50 pounds. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.

This position is part-time 25 hours per week. Mondays 8am-4pm, Wednesdays 9am-5pm, Thursdays 12pm-5pm, Fridays 10am-2pm
